About the Artist
Hello, I'm Scott David Plumlee. Welcome to my new website. This is my third site since '99. I finally got smart and hired a web designer - may I introduce my friend and webmaster Joseph. Thanks, Joe, this is exactly what I wanted, and the site looks and works awesome. This site is coinsiding with the upcoming publication of my first book: Handcrafting Chain Jewelry, Book One: Linear and Combined Designs. Even though I had been working with and teaching a variety of artistic media, from pottery to self-portraiture, I knew I had found my way with metal when I discovered silver chain making while studying at the Appalachian Center for Arts in Tennessee. Over the past nine years, I have been overwhelmed with artistic passion for assembling silver chain. After taking a single jewelry course at A.C.C, I knew silver was my new medium, yet I rejected the hot torch and electric tools of the confining metals studio. I traveled for over five years, across thirty-two countries, all the while making silver chain. I utilized my mobile craft to make gifts for family and friends along my path. Bent on scientific curiosity, I developed over sixty original chain designs and mathematical formulas for each. Throughout my adult life, I have been blessed with many opportunities to share my artistic skills, from pottery and photography to self-portraiture. Over the past three years, I have led fourty-two all day intensive workshops through a variety of public and private educational institutions. For each workshop, I would develop a multi-page, step-by-step instructional handout. Being a conscientious instructor, I would always re-vamp these instructions for each new workshop to clarify the chain making process. The book I have been pursuing is an amalgamation of my teaching experience and would not have been possible without the trial and error of teaching. Here is my Artist Resume, Teaching Resume, and Exhibition Resume.
Sincerely Jazzed,
